Orlando Science Center is proud to share that it recently received a prestigious accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
After a very comprehensive evaluation, the Accreditation Commission determined that Orlando Science Center meets AZA's rigorous standards for animal wellbeing, care and management. Achieving this global standard in zoological and aquarium accreditation proves OSC's exceptional level of dedication and care.
AZA accreditation includes a detailed application and a thorough multiple-day on-site inspection by an independent team of zoological professionals. All aspects of the facility's operation are analyzed. This includes animal care and wellbeing, veterinary care, staff training, educational programs, conservation efforts, financial stability, risk management, governance, and guest services. Plus, top officials from Orlando Science Center were interviewed by the Commission during a formal hearing at the AZA annual conference in Portland, Oregon. This in-depth review ensures that OSC has met and will continue to meet ever-rising standards.
"The AZA accreditation is a great honor for our team and a tremendous endorsement for the Orlando Science Center, particularly our Life exhibit," said OSC's President and CEO, JoAnn Newman. "Within Life, guests explore our planet's fragile ecosystems through the eyes of the animals who call them home. Caring for the animals who live here is central to everything we do. We're committed to being advocates for conservation education while our animals serve as unique ambassadors for our mission."
